What to do when you feel like you can't create

There are some days, weeks, or just times when my brain feels full of creativity, but in reality it is empty, because what I am putting out on paper, or create with my hands, just is a disappointment in my eyes... any creators also feel like that? I listened to Painted Pieces podcast by Audrey Bailey, and this kick starts all of my creativity glum!

First and foremost, we must understand where your creativity comes from. And to do that we have to look at the Author of creativity, the God who created this beautiful world. We are created in His image and it is a gift to be a part of something like creating beautiful things, out of little to nothing.

And just because you aren't an artist, there are many ways every day life is creating and let me share some >>

- an organized home

- a child coloring outside the lines

- a home chef

- a writer

- a nanny who makes up fun games

- a friend that plans a fun day out

- a mom understanding how to comfort her child

- a father working in the shop, or home chores

- a leader in comfort, love, and faith

- a teacher or coach

But this is what Audrey said that really hit home with me, there is a way to WORSHIP while CREATING! So before your pick up your paint brush, pencil, tool, start with this:

C: center yourself, your mind, and thank God. (take away distractions)

R: reflect on your feelings, of what God brought into your life. Reflect on your emotions, are you feeling sadness, joy, loneliness, excitement, anxiety, or hope?

E: empathize with those feelings. you need to have a SAFE space to validate your feelings, and what a safer place then in your Father’s hands? So allow yourself to have those feelings, perhaps remind yourself in scripture, the truth of God's promises and who you are to Him; then its time to

A: allow the Lord to speak to you while you’re creating, open yourself to hear Him, His truth, His promises, His love for you and the wisdom the Holy Spirit will grant you.

T: talk to God, after you allowed him to talk to you and just be in his presence.

E: embrace what you just created! Get happy! because YOU JUST FULFILLED YOUR PURPOSE FOR GOD! God called his creation, "It is good" so follow his lead, in saying, "it is good."

Now I'm going to say something that might be new to you. Creativity is not a "talent", creativity is a seed, that the Lord gives everyone. And just like a seed needs to grow by putting in hard work, so does your creativity.

Exodus 35:35 "He has filled them with skill to do every sort of work done by an engraver or by a designer or by an embroiderer in blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen, or by a weaver- by any sort of workman or skilled designer."

You cannot neglect the skill that God has given to you! and you must NOT compare because, the Lord gives YOU the seed of creativity, and that will not look the same to everyone. You have a responsibility to not neglect your seed.

1 Timothy 4:14 "Do not neglect the gift you have.." and later in verse 15 "Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that you may see your progress."

BUT do not overwhelm yourself, do not put your energy into skills that don't water your soul. Find the seed that God planted in you and you will grow. This seed that you find, is not from human masters, it was given to you by the Lord, so it will be different, so don't work to find the approval of others. Do not work to find the approval of your boss, your social media friends, and even yourself. Work on this seed, to worship your Lord Jesus Christ.

And I hope this reaches you in the way you needed it.
